What Is HMT Rice:

HMT rice refers to a high-yielding hybrid rice variety. Developed by experimental farmer Dadaji Khobragade from the Chandipur district in Maharashtra state, this short-grain rice is suited for daily use. Dadaji Khobragade developed it through natural selection. HMT rice naturally yields high and has a low glycemic index, making it an excellent daily substitute for Kolam rice.

HMT Super Fine Rice is an improved version of Sona Masoori rice, known for its pleasant taste and aroma. Traders named it HMT as this variety of paddy emerged during the popularity of HMT watches. HMT Sona Masoori Rice stands out as a fine quality, lightweight, and aromatic rice. It is considered a healthy choice because it contains less starch and is easily digestible. This rice helps in lowering the impact of raised blood sugar due to its low glycemic index. Additionally, it aids in lowering cholesterol, enhancing digestive processes, boosting energy, and improving mood.

You can use HMT rice to prepare a variety of dishes like lemon rice, tomato rice, coconut rice, puliyogare, ulundorge, kadag ogre, and pulao, thanks to its low starch content. In India, two types of HMT rice are available: Fine grain type (SKM HMT Rice) and medium grain type (YOGI HMT Rice). Breeders developed the HMT rice variety from the conventional 'Patel 3'. It yields an average of 40 to 45 quintals per hectare and features high rice recovery, which can reach up to 80%, along with a better smell and superior cooking quality compared to its parent variety.
